We simplify the high availability network has to satisfy a number of needs.

Simple Reliability
  • Selecting reliable hardware components. We use Intel Server Boards for the mother boards in the web and database servers and Cisco networking equipment.
  • Installing reliable software components. We run Linux and often maintain uptimes greater than 400 days per machine.
  • We eliminate all single points of failure from the network. Every component had a backup and a failure plan. No single component outage could cause a network outage. Even a power interruption would be localized to either the Left or Right side of the network, leaving the other side undisturbed.
Simple Security
  • Simplify network access by allowing only necessary network traffic through the firewall
  • An intrusion detection system on the web and database servers
  • Pro-active monitoring of security mailing lists for applicable security threats
  • Removed all unnecessary processes and daemons from all servers
Simple Cost Reduction
  • Custom servers built with reliable components
  • Configured software and network to be self-maintaining
  • Proactively managed maintenance issues
